 Home Energy Rater

CET seeks qualified staff to work in CET’s new construction programs, including ENERGY STAR Homes and LEED for Homes.  These programs provide guidelines and technical assistance to builders interested in constructing homes that use less energy and have less impact on the environment.  This position involves analyzing the efficiency of homes in computer software and inspecting the homes for program compliance. 

Responsibilities:

  • Measuring floor plans to determine areas of components
  • Evaluating home efficiency in computer software
  • Communicating program standards and recommendations to builders
  • Scheduling visits with builders
  • Inspecting homes for insulation and other environmental features
  • Running blower door and duct leakage tests
  • Installing compact fluorescent light bulbs

Qualifications:

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong math / geometry skills
  • Home renovation or construction experience
  • Passion for the environment and community involvement
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted. 
  • Ability to work outdoors, in basements, crawl spaces and attics.  These locations often have extreme temperatures and poor air quality.
  • Ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 20 feet. 
  • Use of a reliable vehicle

This position is a full-time salary position with benefits.  About 2/3 of the job is in the field and 1/3 of the job is in the office.  The homes to be inspected and analyzed are throughout Western Massachusetts.

Administrative Assistant

CET seeks a qualified administrative assistant to work in the MassSAVE program.  This is a statewide effort to improve the energy efficiency of homes.  After customers receive an audit, they may elect to contract with CET for services.  This position involves tracking contracts, transferring data files, billing customers, scheduling inspections, and answering customer’s questions about the program.   

Responsibilities:

  • Answering calls from National Grid customers
  • Providing information about program offerings
  • Tracking contract completions in a database
  • Invoicing customers for completed contracts
  • Scheduling inspections of completed jobs
  • Tracking customer involvement in loan program
  • Manipulating data files
  • Preparing materials for field staff completing contracted services

Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Excellent computer and database skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge about home construction / renovation
  • Passion for the environment and community involvement
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills 

This is an hourly position with benefits that varies in hours based on the season:

September – November: 28 hours/week

December – February: 35 hours/week

March – May:  28 hours/week

June – August: 21 hours/week

The position is based at our Pittsfield office in Berkshire County, Massachusetts.

Air Sealing Technician

CET seeks qualified field staff to work in the MassSAVE program.  This is a statewide effort to improve the energy efficiency of homes.  This position involves going to customer’s homes to perform air sealing in attics and basements.  Air sealing reduces drafts and makes homes more comfortable and energy efficient. 

Responsibilities:

  • Making calls to air sealing customers to make sure they are ready
  • Selecting appropriate air sealing materials for the job
  • Running blower door tests to determine the leakiness of customer’s home
  • Performing air sealing in attics and basements using caulk and foam
  • Running combustion safety tests
  • Tracking materials used, time spent, and air tightness achieved

Qualifications:

  • Reliable, hardworking, trustworthy
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge about home construction / renovation
  • Passion for the environment and community involvement  
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted. 
  • Ability to work outdoors, in basements, crawl spaces and attics.  These locations often have extreme temperatures and poor air quality.
  • Ability to work on hands in knees in cramped spaces
  • Ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 20 feet, and crawl for distances of 50 feet. 
  • Ability to work with tools and materials such as spray foam and caulking.
  • Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record

This position is an hourly position with benefits.  It is full-time during most of the year, but is only part-time during the summer.  The air sealing customers are located throughout Western Massachusetts.
