Volunteer opportunities at CET
Volunteer positions in our Pittsfield officePre-event outreach and preparationEvent staffing Tabling Event recycling Computer and technical support Office assistant CET beautification team player Pre-event outreach and preparationVolunteer would first develop a list of businesses/bulletin boards in and around the Berkshires where information and flyers can be posted. Volunteer would post CET flyers about upcoming events in these locations. This would be a very flexible assignment, the only duties being to put flyers up and take them down in a timely manner. Volunteer may also help prepare for events by making copies, signs and packets.Upcoming Opportunities: Oil and Paint Collections/Mini-Site Collections: April 30, May 17, and June 14 (Contact Amanda) Textile Drive: April 12 - April 27 (Contact Amanda) HHW Collections: May 10, July 12, and October 18 (Contact Amanda) Green Building Open House: October 4 (Contact Cynthia) Event staffing![]() Volunteers are always needed for events like our Junior Solar Sprint, Hazardous Waste Collections, Textile Drive, and other community-oriented offerings. Upcoming Opportunities: Textile Drive: April 26 and 27 (Contact Amanda) Junior Solar Sprint: May 31 (Contact Cynthia) Green Building Tour: October 4 (Contact Cynthia) TablingVolunteers will attend area events and speak with members of the public about CET’s programs such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste management and recycling. This may include educating the public about items that can and cannot be recycled; and spreading information about home, business and public recycling initiatives. Prior to the event, volunteers may help prepare by making copies and gathering needed materials. At the event, volunteers will distribute informational handouts and fliers, as well as sign people up to receive the quarterly electronic newsletter and other CET information. Orientation and training will be provided.Opportunities: TBA (weekends in late spring, summer, and early fall) (Contact Amanda) Event recyclingVolunteers will assist with recycling at various community events. Volunteers will work directly with the organization planning the event. Volunteers may be expected to attend pre-event meetings to coordinate the work team. Before the event, tasks may include setting out recycling containers. During the event, volunteers may help monitor the containers for contamination, empty the containers if necessary, create awareness of the recycling initiative, and encourage attendees to recycle. After the event, volunteers may help collect, separate, and return the recyclables to a recycling facility. Volunteers may choose to participate in any or all of these areas.Opportunities: TBA (spring, summer, and early fall) Computer and technical supportVolunteers will assist the Director of Marketing and Development and other staff members by entering data gathered from and about various projects. Other tasks may include updating CET’s website, proofing CET’s mailing list, web pages and other documents, adding new contact information, and internet research. Volunteers in this area should be accurate typists and discreet individuals. Computer experience, specifically working with databases and Microsoft Office applications, is helpful and will increase the variety of assignments and extent of responsibility. This is a good way for volunteers to familiarize themselves with CET’s major program offerings.Opportunities: Ongoing, completed during office hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday (Contact Susan) Office assistantVolunteer will assist in administrative work such as filing, making copies, stocking fact sheets, sorting file folders, compiling packets, and other organizational tasks. This is a good opportunity for volunteers to familiarize themselves with CET’s major program offerings.Opportunities: Ongoing, completed during office hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday (Contact Amanda) CET beautification teamVolunteers would perform maintenance on the CET building itself, and would engage in efforts to green up the CET office. Duties might include mowing, raking, painting, landscaping and managing the compost piles. Individuals with experience in yard work or composting are especially welcome. There are also opportunities available for various projects inside the building for individuals with specialized skills like carpentry.Opportunities: Ongoing, weekdays and weekends CET is an equal opportunity service provider.
