Youth Environmental Summit (YES!)

Wednesday, May 30, 2012
8:30 - 1:30
Berkshire Community College
West Street
Pittsfield, MA

The Youth Environmental Summit (YES) is an event organized by the Berkshire Environmental Educators Network (BEEN), which includes Center for EcoTechnology (CET), Flying Cloud Institute, Housatonic Valley Association (HVA), Massachusetts Audubon Society and Berkshire STEM Pipeline Network. At the Summit, students from grades 3 through high school have the opportunity to present the findings of their environmental projects to their peers.

YES is formative in helping students put their own learning experiences into context with others. As they encounter hundreds of other students from throughout Berkshire County who are engaged in environmental projects, students feel empowered and inspired to make improvements in their own local environment.

YES 2011 was an overwhelming success with over 300 participants, 5 morning presentations and 18 workshops led by students from six school districts, two private schools and a home school group. Teachers have indicated that YES inspires students to do their best work in preparing for the event and felt it was a very positive learning experience for themselves as well as their students.
