LEED for Homes Demonstration Project: September 2005 through August 2007

The Center for Ecological Technology (CET) is pleased to report on our involvement in the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes program. From September 2005 through August 2007 CET worked on several demonstration projects in the LEED for Homes pilot with funding assistance from the Environmental Protections Agency (EPA). The EPA’s support allowed us to encourage more widespread use of green building construction and design in western Massachusetts and subsequently work towards our goal of long-term environmental, health and economic benefits for the region, as well as serve as a model for other regions.

Environmental Impact of Initial Pilot Project

  • 53-74% less waste than the national average was created at 3 of the 4 early pilot homes
  • 6,000 to 13,000 gallons of water saved annually with high efficiency toilets, faucets and showerheads
  • Nearly 300 MMBtu’s/year of energy will be saved
