Cell phone recycling

At Barrington Coffee Roasters, an employee packs up a cell phone
for recycling. You can drop off old cell phones and printer cartridges at
CET's offices in Pittsfield (112 Elm Street) or Northampton (26 Market Street).
Contact Jamie Cahillane
for more information.
Cell phones contain lead, arsenic, beryllium, cadmium, antimony, nickel, zinc and copper.
These persistent toxins accumulate in land and ground water and can spread over large areas,
moving easily between air, water and soil.
In addition, these substances can cause a range of adverse human health effects, including
damage to the nervous system, reproductive and developmental problems, and cancer.
Mobile phones are discarded at a rate of 130 million per year, resulting in 65,000 tons of waste.
