A number of small-scale solar projects exist and are being planned in Berkshire County.

• The Williamstown Elementary School recently installed a 24 KW photovoltaic array on its roof that is estimated to generate about 30,000 kwh per year.
• Many homeowners have installed PV systems that provide between 10-100 percent of their electric needs.

Massachusetts has a vibrant and growing solar industry. Several manufacturers of PV panels and associated equipment are located in Massachusetts. SEBANE is a business association of solar energy companies based, or doing business, in New England whose mission is to promote the use of solar energy and the development of the solar energy industry in New England.

Due to the high price of PV technology, solar electric is still out of reach for many, but it is an important part of the renewable energy mix for our region.
