The Art of Recycling

This innovative program for keeping bottles and cans out of the waste stream was a collaboration between the town of Great Barrington, MA, a community group of artists, and CET. Says Raya Ariella, community coordinator for the program, "This project helped us creatively address a community problem."

Fifteen local artists were chosen to create the bins, most of which you can see here. These bins are strategically placed along both Main and Railroad Street in Great Barrington, where they elegantly serve as collectors for cans and bottles. Each bin is itself made from reycled materials!

Grassroots fundraising efforts earned Ariella and the town more than $15,000, which was used to purchase the bins and provide a stipend for each of the artists.
