The spring 2018 Reuse Rockstar competition put on by EcoBuilding Bargains, our building materials reuse store, has come to a close. Reuse Rockstar is a friendly, bi-annual competition that highlights customers who have upcycled, transformed or repurposed items from EcoBuilding Bargains into creative and functioning pieces. This year, we decided to let the public decide who should win! We hosted a live voting for the winner at our annual EcoBuilding Bargains Bash event and the winner is……local craftsman and owner of Piedmont Woodcraft, Matthew Johnson!Read More»

The Spring 2018 Reuse Rockstar Competition has come to a close. Thank you to all who submitted entries and voted on the winner! This competition highlights some of the ingenious projects our customers make with materials from EcoBuilding Bargains. There were many creative entries, totaling 17 unique projects, all of which you can see here. The community voted for the project they liked best at our EcoBuilding Bargains Bash last Saturday. Thank you to everyone who participated! All the projects were amazing and we can’t wait to see what you come up with for our fall competition! Here are the top projects for Spring 2018:
Colleen Adams – Bathroom Remodel
Colleen and her husband wanted to turn an unfinished space in their cottage into a second bathroom. They used materials from various reuse stores, including EcoBuilding Bargains! The two painted two raised panel doors, used for storage cubbies, and the biscuit-colored sink, nickel stand, and matching toilet helped complete the look!Read More»

According to the EPA, approximately 8.5 million tons of furniture waste is sent to landfills each year, even though many of these items are still usable, either as parts or as a whole. With limited landfill capacity – that’s an incredible waste of space! Additionally, throwing out furniture for disposal demands more energy and resources as new furniture is produced and transported to replace it – emitting associated greenhouse gasses in the process. Rather than sending unwanted furniture to the landfill, we can reuse and recycle it.Read More»

Last week the 2017 Reuse Rockstars competition came to an end. We had 18 entries, and we were blown away by your creativity and ingenuity! These materials were once destined for the landfill, but thanks to your hard work and a shopping trip to EcoBuilding Bargains, new life has been breathed into these unique conversation pieces! Although only one winner will walk away with the $200 gift card to EcoBuilding Bargains, we would like to showcase a few of our favorites, and thank everyone for participating!
This table will be the envy of every dinner party! Place it in the middle of your garden with some outdoor lighting and you have the perfect dinner venue from summer through fall! Cynthia found both the reclaimed door that is now the tabletop, and the canopy bed that is now the legs at EcoBuilding Bargains, making this a full transformation! The center is cut away to reveal an under-mounted rain gutter that functions as an ice bucket for wine and other drinks.
Here we go again! EcoBuilding Bargains is kick-starting our Fall 2017 Reuse Rockstar Competition! Reuse Rockstar is a friendly competition held to showcase all of the creative ways EcoBuilding Bargains customers transform materials they find at the store into beautiful and innovative pieces. Last year, our customers turned a wooden beam into a light fixture, old wood into a rustic coffee table, old bowling alley lane flooring into a counter top and so much more! Check out these submissions from last year for some inspiration:
