Boston, MA – The Center for EcoTechnology was delighted to accept an award from the Environmental Business Council of New England (EBC) for their 23rd Annual EBEE Awards. The Center for EcoTechnology was honored on June 16 at the Annual EBEE Awards Celebration, held at the Marriott Hotel in Newton, Massachusetts. This recognition followed the Center for EcoTechnology’s Environmental Merit Award from the US Environmental Protection Agency’s New England regional office.

“Together with our partners we have been working toward reducing waste,” said Center for EcoTechnology President John Majercak. “Reducing food waste specifically has been an active part of our mission for a long time and we are encouraged by how much progress we have made.”

ebcEach year, the EBC recognizes companies, organizations and individuals for outstanding environmental and energy accomplishments in the promotion of a sustainable, clean environment through the EBEE Awards Celebration. The Center for EcoTechnology received the 2016 EBC Environmental Merit Award for Leadership by a Non-Profit Organization award in recognition of outstanding longtime pioneering leadership in the development of food waste recovery marketplace in Massachusetts. These awards were established by the EBC to encourage companies, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and environmental professionals to serve as models for others to emulate and, in doing so, further the mission and objectives of the EBC.

“It was special to share this recognition with our partners like MassDEP, EPA New England, Big Y Foods and others who have been there at every step to help make food diversion more and more a normal way of doing business,” said Center for EcoTechnology Green Business Director Lorenzo Macaluso. “Thank you to EBC for this award and Wayne Davis for the nomination!”

The Center for EcoTechnology was noted for being a leader and pioneer in food recovery in Massachusetts, most recently through its partnership with the state Department of Environmental Protection to offer RecyclingWorks MA.
