EcoBuilding Bargains Bash Recap
By Willow Cohn, Community Outreach and Education Fellow
This past Saturday, we hosted our annual EcoBuilding Bargains Bash! This public event was our way of celebrating spring, reuse, and waste reduction. Activities took place in the EcoBuilding Bargains lumber yard and throughout the store! Desite the gloomy and wet weather, we had a great turnout, with over 400 guests in attendance! DJ Kevin Legends did a phenomenal job playing music for us all to enjoy, and The Holyoke Hummus Company provided a wide verity of delicious Mediterranean food. We also displayed all of our Reuse Rockstar contestants, and guests could vote on their favorite project!
It was wonderful to have local artists demonstrate how to reuse materials in creative ways! Volunteers from Make-It Springfield taught a demonstration on repurposing fan blades and Bonnie Combs, owner of Bird Brain Designs, taught how to repurpose bird seed bags and animal feed bags into fashionable, reusable tote bags, and we had a live demonstration on building saw horses from scratch.
Guests also got creative at our upcycling crafts tables where they converted old ceramic tiles into drink coasters and converted recycled cabinet doors into chic chalkboards! After crafting, many were eager to hear about vermicomposting and see how the red wiggler worms turn food waste into finished compost. Guests also had the chance to learn how to recycle tricky items from New England Disposal Technologies, Inc.. These eco-friendly activities were fun for the whole family!
Thank you to everyone who came out for the EcoBuilding Bargains Bash,
we hope to see you there again next year!
