SUMMARY:Deconstructing Deconstruction
DESCRIPTION:Join us on March 28\, 2023 at 3 PM (EST) for our virtual event\, Deconstructing Deconstruction. \nAround 600 million tons of construction and demolition (C&D) materials are thrown away in the U.S. every year. This represents more than double the amount of everyday garbage discarded by the public in the U.S. annually. A great way to reduce this waste is through deconstruction\, which keeps perfectly good building materials and appliances out of landfills and presents opportunities for lower disposal fees and tax deductions.   \nContractors and real estate agents in Connecticut are encouraged to join Deconstructing Deconstruction\, a webinar hosted by the Center for EcoTechnology (CET). CET will provide an overview of deconstruction and C&D recycling best practices and underline the no-cost technical assistance available to contractors. Attendees will leave the webinar inspired by the deconstruction success stories presented. Come prepared to decrease your carbon footprint!  \nRegister here. \n

SUMMARY:How NY Businesses Can Benefit From Food Recovery: Part I - Prevention & Donation
DESCRIPTION:Register for Part I: Prevention & Donation \nRegister for Part 2: Food Scrap Recycling \nSpeakers: \n\nJames Halstead\, Inventory Manager\, Goodness Gardens\nJay Hawkins\, Food Rescue Manager\, Feeding New York State\nErin Moscati\, Sustainability Education Manager\, University at Buffalo\nJohn Bottorff\, Assistant Dining Director\, University at Buffalo\nLisa Pellegrino\, Waste Reduction Consultant\, Center for EcoTechnology\nJosh Enderle\, Waste Reduction Consultant\, Center for EcoTechnology\n\nThe time has come for us to rethink our approach to food waste and implement accessible and innovative solutions to solve this critical issue.  \nJoin the Center for EcoTechnology (CET) on Wednesday\, August 30th at 10:00 AM for an online event dedicated to wasted food solutions for businesses and institutions in New York State. During this first event\, attendees will gain valuable insights to help tackle food waste effectively and learn about the free assistance that is available to help reach these goals through the Rethink Food Waste NY program.  \nWhen food goes uneaten\, all the resources (energy\, water\, materials\, money) that are required to produce\, process\, package\, transport\, store\, and prepare it are wasted as well. This wasted food accounts for at least 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions (4% of U.S. annual emissions). By collaborating and sharing best practices\, we can work towards a future where food waste is minimized at its source and no edible food goes to waste.  \nThe presentation on August 30th will focus on two critical strategies on the EPA Food Recovery Hierarchy: food waste prevention and surplus food donation. These strategies offer benefits that go beyond their positive social and environmental impacts. They are practical to implement and can even result in cost savings.   \nWe will hear from two organizations about their efforts to reduce waste and address food insecurity. Goodness Gardens\, an herb farm out of New Hampton\, will teach us about their effective methods for preventing food waste. Additionally\, the University at Buffalo will walk us through its food donation program\, which makes a significant difference in the community by directing its surplus food to those in need.  \nDon’t miss the opportunity to join us in reducing wasted food while unlocking environmental\, social\, and financial benefits for your organization.

SUMMARY:How NY Businesses Can Benefit From Food Recovery: Part II - Food Scrap Recycling
DESCRIPTION:Register for Part I: Prevention & Donation \nRegister for Part 2: Food Scrap Recycling \nSpeakers: \n\nLisa Motzer\, Farmer & Owner\, The Lone Duck Farm\nRion LuBrutto\, Head of Operations\, Harney & Sons Fine Teas\nLisa Pellegrino\, Waste Reduction Consultant\, Center for EcoTechnology\nJosh Enderle\, Waste Reduction Consultant\, Center for EcoTechnology\n\nThe time has come for us to rethink our approach to food waste and implement accessible and innovative solutions to solve this critical issue  \nJoin The Center for Ecotechnology (CET) on September 6th at 10:00 AM for the second installment of our webinar series\, “How NY Businesses Can Benefit from Food Recovery.” Part II will focus on three practical approaches to reduce food waste from the Food Recovery Hierarchy; animal feed\, compost\, and anaerobic digestion. \nTune in on September 6th to discover the multitude of environmental and economic benefits associated with repurposing food waste as animal feed\, learn about the replenishing wonders of composting for returning nutrients to depleted soils\, and explore the potential of anaerobic digestion to generate renewable energy sources. These methods are beneficial for not only reducing unnecessary waste and potentially saving money but also can sequester carbon from the atmosphere.  \nAttendees will hear from businesses engaging in food scraps diversion\, including The Lone Duck Farm which receives barley rootlets for its piglets from the local brewer\, Hudson Valley Malt\, and Harney & Sons Fine Teas\, a tea company developing an on-site composting operation that will take in all of the organic byproducts from its manufacturing operation. Engage with these industry leaders during the Q&A session and gain valuable insights on how to implement or expand a food waste reduction program at your business or in your community.   \nAdditionally\, attendees will learn about the no-cost support available to businesses and institutions to address food waste through Rethink Food Waste NY. Our free assistance is flexible and always tailored to meet your specific organization’s needs.

SUMMARY:New England Restaurant & Bar Show
DESCRIPTION:New England Food Show Rebranding to New England Restaurant & Bar Show \nThe Massachusetts Restaurant Association and Exposition Development Company\, Inc. have announced that after more than fifty years as the New England Food Show\, the event will evolve and rebrand to New England Restaurant & Bar Show. \nThe name shift will allow for better focus on the event being a business-to-business show for the foodservice/restaurant industry along with highlighting the important bar element. \nThis will also drive a new format for the show which historically was a three-day show but in 2024 will reemerge as a two-day show. The emphasis will be on consolidating time for exhibitors who are busier than ever in the post pandemic environment as well as allowing show management to revamp the education and culinary stages\, introduce new pavilions\, focus on more food distributors as well as food and bar products\, and amp up the networking opportunities.

The conference will feature product demonstrations\, networking events\, and accredited sessions that offer best practices and lessons learned\, case studies and proven data\, technical “how-to”s\, emerging technologies\, and innovative policies and programs. \n  \nConference Theme: Climate Resilience\nAs the planet warms\, the Northeast is already experiencing severe weather events\, including prolonged heat waves and cold snaps\, strong winds\, heavy rains\, and coastal flooding. Achieving climate resilience in our built environment will require us to implement a wide array of passive and active solutions to mitigate the effects of these changes. At the same time\, we must continue to address the root causes by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions. It is also critical to ensure that vulnerable and under-resourced communities do not bear the brunt of these challenges.\n\nAs practitioners\, we have a multitude of tools to apply to this work\, ranging from the tried-and-true to the experimental and cutting-edge. All these tools will be necessary for the task at hand\, which will also require bringing together stakeholders from many fields and backgrounds.

SUMMARY:The Business Advantages of Reducing Wasted Food in New Hampshire
DESCRIPTION:Join Our Virtual Event on Reducing Wasted Food\n  \nDate: Tuesday\, June 18th\nTime: 2:00 – 3:30PM \nCET invites you to a virtual event focused on practical solutions for reducing wasted food in businesses\, institutions\, and schools. During this event\, you will discover strategies to minimize and sustainably manage wasted food\, leading to financial savings\, boosted staff morale\, enhanced customer satisfaction\, and a reduced environmental impact. \nEvent Highlights: \n\nBlue Loon Bakery will showcase their successful food waste prevention\, food donation\, and composting programs.\nNH Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) will provide an overview of the upcoming New Hampshire Food Waste Ban.\n\nSchedule: \n\nPresentations: 2:00 – 3:00 PM\nOptional Discussion and Q&A: 3:00 – 3:30 PM\n\nClick here to register!  \n  \nWhy Addressing Wasted Food in New Hampshire Matters: \nIn 2020\, NHDES reported that approximately 165\,000 tons of wasted food were disposed of by the state’s residents\, businesses\, and institutions\, comprising 24% of the total solid waste stream (source: BioCycle). Instead of contributing to landfill waste and greenhouse gas emissions\, this food can\, however\, be redirected for higher purposes\, which CET will discuss in detail. \nThe substance of CET’s presentation will be relevant to New Hampshire’s Food Waste Ban\, which will go into effect on February 1\, 2025. Specifically\, the ban will apply to entities (businesses\, institutions\, schools\, etc.) that produce one ton of wasted food per week or more and are located within 20 miles of a facility with the capacity and authorization to manage wasted food.    \nDon’t miss this opportunity to learn how to reduce wasted food and unlock environmental\, social\, and financial benefits for your business or organization. \nWe look forward to your participation!
