DESCRIPTION:New York State Compost Site Operators Workshop: Schenectady/Schenectady Community Compost Project\, Fehr Ave. Farm  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocation:Schenectady Urban Farms \n\n\n\nDate:Mon March 30\, 2026 \n\n\n\nTime:10:30 am – 2:30 pm \n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n–DAYS–HOURS–MINUTES–SECONDS\n\n\n\n\n\nSession summary\n\n\n\n\nCET\, with support from NYS DEC\, is hosting a free compost site operators’ workshop in Schenectady\, New York on March 30th\, 2026 from 10:30am-2:30pm.   \n\n\n\nJoin us for an engaging and informative half-day event focused on best practices for implementing community scale composting systems in New York State. The workshop will be led by James McSweeney of Compost Technical Services and The 131° School of Composting.  \n\n\n\nThe workshop will be divided into two parts: an online webinar and a half-day field session. The webinar will be held on Tuesday\, March 3rd from 10:00am-12:00pm. All in-person registrants will automatically register for the webinar. If you are unable to attend\, we will record the session so that attendees can watch before the in-person field portion.   \n\n\n\nThe hands-on field session will take place at Fehr Avenue Farm\, in collaboration with the Schenectady Community Compost Project.   \n\n\n\nThis workshop is geared toward the following participants from New York State:  \n\n\n\n\nOperators of agricultural\, municipal\, and private composting operations that accept food scraps. \n\n\n\n\n\nOperators of small-scale/community composting sites that accept food scraps\, such as community gardens\, local parks\, etc. \n\n\n\n\n\nOther interested parties considering starting a commercial or community scale composting operation to compost food scraps. \n\n\n\n\n\nRegister now\n\n\n\n\nPriority registration will be given to New York-based composters. Out-of-state registrants will be placed on a waitlist and notified if spots become available.  \n\n\n\nThis workshop is part of a series of two workshops that CET is hosting in Spring 2026 under our Rethink Food Waste NY program. The Schenectady Community Compost Project was launched in May of 2023 to support the expansion of food scraps recycling and increase sustainable materials management education efforts in Schenectady\, New York. With food scraps drop-off sites across the county\, Fehr Avenue Farm serves as a special site for the Schenectady Community Compost Project. On-site\, there is a solar powered Aerated Static Pile (ASP) system that processes a mix of food scraps from a local school\, the community drop-off sites\, and garden clean out from the farm\, into a nutrient-rich compost used by Schenectady Urban Farms and local schools to keep the community fed.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCOMPOST TeChNICAL SERVICES Compost Technical Services is a specialized consulting and education firm focused on helping farms\, communities\, and organizations build resilient\, sustainable compost systems. They offer expert compost systems design\, operational support\, and technical assistance to improve food scrap recycling and nutrient management\, with programs active in places like Vermont\, Massachusetts\, and New York.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCET · Center for ecothecnology CET is an environmental nonprofit committed to assisting a variety of operations in reducing\, recovering\, and diverting wasted food from disposal.
