Reuse Rockstars Winners 2017
Last week the 2017 Reuse Rockstars competition came to an end. We had 18 entries, and we were blown away by your creativity and ingenuity! These materials were once destined for the landfill, but thanks to your hard work and a shopping trip to EcoBuilding Bargains, new life has been breathed into these unique conversation pieces! Although only one winner will walk away with the $200 gift card to EcoBuilding Bargains, we would like to showcase a few of our favorites, and thank everyone for participating!
This table will be the envy of every dinner party! Place it in the middle of your garden with some outdoor lighting and you have the perfect dinner venue from summer through fall! Cynthia found both the reclaimed door that is now the tabletop, and the canopy bed that is now the legs at EcoBuilding Bargains, making this a full transformation! The center is cut away to reveal an under-mounted rain gutter that functions as an ice bucket for wine and other drinks.
Aviary by Jay
This is an example of true ingenuity! Jay needed an aviary for his birds, and instead of purchasing a new one, he built his own! The structure is made of an old armoire and he used supplemental wood and chicken wire he found at EcoBuilding Bargains. This is a great transformation of a piece of furniture that may have been more suited to an entirely new purpose.
Third Place – Kitchen Renovation by Debra
Debra used materials from EcoBuilding Bargains to give her kitchen a face lift! This project proves that reused materials can look high-end. Debra found this beautiful window paneled door, as well as reclaimed maple flooring at EcoBuilding Bargains! We don’t often have enough flooring to complete a full room, but Debra replaced only the floorboards that needed replacement; she acted both sustainably and stylishly, as her floors now have beautiful and unique striations!
Second Place – Kitchen Renovation by Robbie
When Robbie expanded his kitchen, she found this cabinet set at EcoBuilding Bargains. Our cabinet sets are priced at 50-60% of their original cost, which can save thousands on a full kitchen renovation! Robbie needed more cabinets than EcoBuilding Bargains had in stock, but that did not stop him. She found more of the same cabinets through the manufacturer. Robbie also found the quartz island at EcoBuilding Bargains, and found matching counter-tops through the manufacturer. This set is truly a mixture of old and new, can you tell? We can’t! Great job, Robbie!
First Place – Kitchen Island by Kim
This piece is accessible to any EcoBuilding Bargains fan! Kim sourced the countertop, cabinet doors, and hardware from the store to make this kitchen island! It’s a DIY project that anyone could do with a little hard work! Cheaper than buying new, building you own island not only saves you money, but also diverts materials from the landfill! Kim used reclaimed red oak flooring as the countertop to complete this classy looking island!
