Second Annual EcoBuilding BBQ Recap

By Chiara Favaloro, Marketing Fellow

This past Saturday, we hosted our second annual EcoBuilding Barbeque! This public event, sponsored by PeoplesBank, was our way of celebrating spring, reuse, and waste reduction. Activities took place in the EcoBuilding Bargains lumber yard and we were thrilled with the gorgeous weather and a great turnout, with over 500 guests in attendance! DJ Kevin Legends did a phenomenal job playing music for us all to enjoy, and The Holyoke Hummus Company provided some delicious Mediterranean food.

It was wonderful to have salvage craftsmen Palo Coleman and Joe Rosati demonstrate how to reuse wood in creative ways! Coleman brought out a blow torch to demonstrate a Japanese wood burning technique that preserves and weatherizes the wood, while Rosati made a beautiful coffee table out of salvaged wood planks.

Joe Rosati, from Attic to Awesome, did a demonstration on how to build a coffee table from scrap wood. The final product was beautiful!

Guests also got creative at our upcycling crafts table where they converted old ceramic tiles into drink coasters and painted brick garden signs. After crafting, many were eager to hear about vermicomposting and see how the red wiggler worms turn food waste into finished compost. These eco-friendly activities were fun for the whole family!

Thank you to everyone who came out for the EcoBuilding BBQ, we hope to see you there again next year!
