Third Annual EcoBuilding Bargains Bash!

EcoBuilding Bargains is hosting its annual customer appreciation event to celebrate spring, reuse, and upcycling materials next Saturday, May 19th from 11:00-2:00pm! This free event will feature a multitude of family fun activities, such as composting and reuse workshops, along with live upcycling and composting demonstrations, and crafts for kids. Participants can also enjoy free food from the Holyoke Hummus Company while listening to music provided by local DJ, Kevin Legends.

EcoBuilding Bargains Bash

In addition to the entertainment and food,we’ll have a variety of activities to enjoy! EcoBuilding Bargains is excited to partner with local members of the community to promote reuse and sustainability in Springfield.

  • Volunteers from Make-It Springfield will be showing us how to create lawn decorations from recycled materials found in EcoBuilding Bargains. EcoFellows will be teaching how to transform tiles into coasters and make chalkboards out of recycled cabinet doors. People having fun at the EcoBuilding Bargains Bash
  • Bonnie Combs, owner of Bird Brain Designs, will be teaching how to repurpose bird seed bags and animal feed bags into fashionable, reusable tote bags and aprons, which diverts them from the landfill.
  • New England Disposal Technologies, Inc. will be at the event discussing what to do with tricky recycling items!
  • Join community member craftsman, Bill Coleman for a live demonstration on building saw horses from scratch.
  • There will also be live voting on The Reuse Rockstar competition! Come cast your ballot for the most creative and beautiful upcycling project implemented in local community members homes with material bought at EcoBuilding Bargains!
  • Come meet our red wiggler worms! CET’s outreach specialist, Ed Rutledge, will give vermicomposting demonstrations throughout the day. He will show how to create a simple compost bin and explain how the worms help turn food waste into finished compost.

EcoBuilding Bargains, a non-profit enterprise of the Center for EcoTechnology, has served the local community for 16 years, (originally as the ReStore Home Improvement Center). EcoBuilding Bargains is the largest used and surplus building materials store in New England. Materials are donated from across the region, keeping nearly 500 tons of material out of the landfill every year.
