About CET

CET is dedicated to paving the way for individuals and businesses to embrace a carbon-free future. Our vision encompasses a world that champions equitable and resilient climate solutions.

Working in the Built Environment:

Operating within the built environment, we conduct various projects and programs aimed at fostering sustainability.

Our initiatives include commercial waste reduction and recycling, wasted food prevention and diversion, building material reuse, high-performance green building design, and consulting on building electrification and energy efficiency.

We primarily serve southern New England and New York, spanning across a dozen states.

Demonstrated Success:

At CET, our proven model enables us to provide tailored support to over 20,000 customers annually.

In 2022 alone, we assisted 22,000 individuals and businesses, resulting in over 1,095,000 lifetime MMBtu’s saved—equivalent to powering 14,000 homes off the grid for a year.

Additionally, we diverted 29,000 tons of waste from disposal, generating over $32.4 million in lifetime savings for our customers while mitigating 286,000 tons of lifetime CO2 emissions—equivalent to removing 62,000 cars from the road for a year.

Our outreach and education campaigns have also reached over 800,000 people through social media.

Board Recruitment Process

Casual Conversation

Interested candidates will begin with casual conversations with one or more members of our Board Recruitment Committee to learn more and explore the opportunity.

Group Interview

A standard set of questions will be asked:

We currently meet six times per year: five remote meetings (2 hr, 8-10 am on Fridays) and one in-person retreat in May in the Northampton, MA area. Would this schedule work for you?

Based on these interviews, the Recruitment Committee will recommend candidates to the full Board who are an excellent match for CET’s needs. The full Board must vote to formally appoint new board members.

Janet Warren, Chair

…is a retired professional whose three decades of experience in marketing, sales, and product development include being Director of Marketing at Fazzi Associates, Vice President of Marketing at Monson Savings Bank, President of her own consulting firm, MarCom Capital, and Second Vice President for Market Development at Phoenix Home Life. In addition to her role on CET’s Board, her community engagement activities have included serving on the most recent strategic planning committee for the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce and as a board member for the Chamber, the Hampshire County Regional Chamber, the Hampshire County Regional Tourism Council, and the United Way of Hampshire County.

Nancy Nylen, Vice Chair

…is an independent consultant and environmental educator, specializing in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy, and resource conservation. She recently retired from CET, where she worked for more than three decades on innovative programs focusing on local solutions to energy issues that benefit the economy, natural environment, and quality of life for community members. She began her career at the Alaska Division of Energy and Power Development in the late 1970’s and went on to work for state and regional non-profit organizations in Washington State, New Mexico, and Massachusetts. Nancy received a B.A. from Hampshire College and a Masters of Education with a concentration in science education from the University of Washington. Nancy serves on the Board of Directors of Energy Federation, Inc. and is a Board member emerita of the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation.

Nathaniel Tassinari, Treasurer

…is Regional Vice President for Western Massachusetts at TD Bank where he leads Commercial and Small Business Banking Teams. Nate has been with TD Bank for more than 15 years where he started after a varied career which included work in retail, hospitality, human services, technology, and publishing. Nate owns and manages Million Little Sunbeams, a solar development company which installed the first Agrivoltaic Solar Array approved under the SMART Solar program in Massachusetts. Nate is a graduate of Starting-Bloc Social Entrepreneurship, earned his undergraduate degree in Economics and East European Studies from Rutgers University, and received his Master’s Degree in European Studies from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. Nate and his wife Ania have two boys and split their time between Boston and Western MA.

Jennifer Marrapese, Clerk

…is a community member and formerly Senior Director of NEEP. In this role, Jennifer oversees and implements the organization’s strategic programs. She serves as NEEP’s leader for program and project planning and management, product/solutions development, and will support stakeholder engagement and fundraising. Before joining NEEP, Jennifer served as Chief of People, Culture, and Communication at Petersen Engineering, where she positioned the firm for rapid growth while maintaining and enhancing organizational culture and diversity. Prior to that, Jennifer served as Director of Search Services for United Personnel where she recruited and placed nonprofit executives and advised clients on their diversity and inclusion practices. For nearly 10 years, Jennifer served as Executive Director of Northeast Sustainable Energy Association (NESEA), where her efforts helped increase membership by 300% and staff retention by 50%, while growing sponsorships and diversify revenues significantly. Jennifer graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and received a master’s degree in organizational development and management from Fielding University (California). She holds a Juris Doctor from University of California.

Bhargavi Chevva

…is Senior Vice President of Business Development and Strategy at ReMo Energy, a developer of distributed scale green ammonia plants to make competitively priced fertilizers. Prior to ReMo, Bhargavi was a Partner at Breakthrough Energy Ventures, a $2B climate tech venture firm. She worked in operations and finance roles at Roche and ExxonMobil, with experience in petroleum refining operations, engineering design, strategic financial and operational planning. Bhargavi holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.S. in Chemical-Biological Engineering from MIT.

Rosheen Kavanagh

Rosheen has over 20 years of experience in creating, directing, and managing fundraising and philanthropic strategies. She is currently the Director of the Milton Fund at Milton Academy where she oversees both the fundraising and stewardship of the school’s annual fund as well as the annual Giving Day campaign. Rosheen was previously at MIT for over 17 years holding several leadership positions building, launching, and modernizing integrated marketing and volunteer donor solicitation programs in partnership with major gift officers, including Reunion Gift, Young Alumni (MIT10), and CASE award winning programs for alumni 11-24 years post graduation and student philanthropy campaigns.

Heather Merhi-Matthews

…started her career in the energy field in 2013 as a CET Energy Efficiency EcoFellow. Most recently, she is a Project Manager at Icetec Energy Services, a technology solutions provider which dispatches more than 200 MW of distributed generation in Northeast and Mid-Atlantic energy markets. She also continues in her role as Director of Operations at Next Grid Markets, a leading MA-based alternative and renewable energy certificate aggregator, which she has been involved in since the company’s formation in 2017. In her prior role at an environmental engineering consulting company, she worked with municipal and institutional clients on energy and billing analysis, energy master planning and climate resiliency.

Heather is active in her local community, serving as Energy Subcommittee Chair on her town’s Sustainability Commission. Throughout all her roles she is driven by an interest in sustainability and exploring the ways in which companies and institutions can reduce their climate change impact. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with an Ecology concentration, from UMass Lowell in 2013.

Ashley Muspratt

As CET’s President, Ashley also serves on the Board of Directors. Since joining CET in 2018, Ashley has spearheaded novel building decarbonization services, wasted food solutions, and financing opportunities for customers and partners. She has broad experience with the organization’s nation-leading wasted food programming, building sector decarbonization, and deconstruction. Ashley assumed the role of president in 2022, and as CET’s leader is deeply engaged in strategic planning, implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and expanding the breadth and efficacy of programs through operations, communications, and fundraising.

Ashley has a long track-record as a leader and innovator. Prior to joining CET, she founded and lead a waste-to-energy startup in sub-Saharan Africa, which converted human fecal sludge into industrial fuel. The company’s investors included the Gates Foundation, USAID, and the French Development Agency and was widely recognized for reinventing the economics of urban sanitation in low-income countries.

Ashley has an MS in Environmental Engineering and PhD in Energy and Resources from the University of California, Berkeley.

Carl Cherebin

…Brings to the table over four decades of experience in advertising, magazine publishing, and media, having worked at prestigious organizations such as Scientific American, Nature Publishing Group (MacMillan), and Springer/Nature. Throughout his career, he navigated the intricate intersections of operations, production, advertising, sales, and account management, honing his expertise in account management, customer relations, team building, and fostering individual growth.

With a commitment to being part of the solution and uplifting others whenever possible, Carl has always sought to contribute to endeavors larger than himself.

Diana Vasquez

Diana is a CET EcoFellow alumni. Since CET, Diana has earned her Master’s of Public Health in Environmental Health and has worked at Union of Concerned Scientists and the Massachusetts Coalition for Safety and Health (MassCOSH). Currently, Diana is Review Board Manager for the City of Boston’s Building Emissions Reduction and Disclosure Ordinance (BERDO). Part of the City’s Carbon Neutrality team, she works directly with the BERDO Review Board in its mission to equitably implement the BERDO ordinance which aims to ensure that Boston’s large buildings achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

David Werbel

David is a Partner with TFC Law Group PLLC and has practiced corporate, mergers & acquisitions (M&A), international transactions, compliance, and securities law for over 20 years. In addition to his professional experience, David has practical experience with the circular economy. He and his wife own a large commercial building which they renovated and were able to donate or reuse about 80% of the building materials.

Virginia LeClair

Virginia is a seasoned environmental professional with over 23 years of experience in sustainability, having worked with consulting firms, non-profit organizations, and local governments. Throughout her career, she has served as an Environmental Educator, Sustainability Coordinator, and Consultant, dedicating her efforts to advancing the journey towards net zero in various Massachusetts communities.
She has held positions such as Environmental Educator at The Boston Harbor Association, Conservation Assistant at the Town of Brookline, and Environmental Coordinator at the Town of Dedham for 12.5 years. More recently, she has served as a Sustainability Coordinator Consultant for the Towns of Hingham and Cohasset. Virginia played a pivotal role in leading Dedham’s climate action planning process and in crafting Hingham’s Climate Action Plan.
Her expertise spans across waste reduction and recycling, stormwater management, carbon emission calculations, energy efficiency, transportation planning, and land and resource management. Additionally, she possesses extensive experience in grant writing and securing funding for sustainability initiatives.
Virginia holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies and Public Policy from Hobart and William Smith College. She has actively contributed to the Town of Hingham’s Energy Action Committee and is presently involved in various local sustainability endeavors in her hometown of Cohasset, MA.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Virginia enjoys spending time with her husband, Eric, their two daughters, and their beloved family dog, Conway.
