Join RecyclingWorks in Massachusetts (RecyclingWorks) for the 2024 Compost Site Operators Practical Skills Workshop on Thursday, October 22nd, 2026, from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The workshop will include a morning classroom session followed by an afternoon field session at Black Earth Compost’s site in Groton.  

This no-cost workshop, conducted in collaboration with James McSweeney of Compost Technical Services and The 131° School of Composting, will focus on best practices for composting food scraps.  

Registration is required. Priority registration is given to the following participants based in Massachusetts: 

Operators of agricultural, municipal, and private compost sites that accept off-site food materials
Operators of small-scale sites that accept off-site food scraps, such as community garden compost sites   
Other interested parties considering starting a commercial or community compost site and accepting off-site food materials 

If the workshop reaches capacity, you will be placed on a waitlist and notified if a spot becomes available. 

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email from RecyclingWorks with further details and an agenda. We will start our day out at a classroom offsite (within 15 minutes from the compost site.
