Salisbury Elementary School
Salisbury Elementary’s project isn’t only about reducing waste—
it’s about building a culture of sustainability that will impact
students, teachers, and the community for years to come.

The Goal
Salisbury Elementary School in New Hampshire
embraced sustainability to foster a greener, more
responsible future. Thanks to funding from USDA
Rural Utilities Services, CET was able to help the
school implement efficient wasted food diversion
programs. The programs were designed to reduce
wasted food and instill a sense of environmental
responsibility among students, school personnel,
and the community.
The solution
Salisbury Elementary School implemented a multi-pronged food waste diversion program with support from CET and USDA funding. They introduced a share table to redistribute excess food, created “Pig” and “Goat” buckets for local farms to repurpose food scraps, and engaged students and staff in daily waste-sorting activities. These efforts not only divert 1.45 tons of food waste annually from landfills but also provide students with hands-on sustainability education that fosters lifelong environmental responsibility.
The Results
Students Education
